A delicious and creamy chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie is sure a great way to start your day. It tastes like a chocolate smoothie even though no chocolate has been added! It’s a great way to satisfy your sweet tooth with something healthy.
Ingredients:
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Dates – it’s best to use soft dates – I either buy dates where it says explicitly on the package 'soft dates’ or I buy medjool dates (they are bigger than regular dates so you only need maybe 2-3 instead of 5). If you have dry or partially dried dates you will be able to blend them smooth only if you have a very powerful blender. Alternatively, you can soak these dates in milk overnight or soak them in boiling water for 10 mins, then drain, and add to other ingredients.
- Instead of dates, you can just add maple syrup. The smoothie with dates is a little bit more thick, creamy, and more naturally sweet, but the difference in flavor is not significant.
- Milk – I used cow’s milk but any plant-based milk can also be added, for example, almond milk. If your almond milk is sweetened to may need to reduce the dates/maple syrup amount.
- Peanut butter – make sure to use unsweetened peanut butter or reduce the dates/maple syrup amount.
- Cocoa – I used unsweetened cocoa.
- Banana – it’s best to use ripe and sweet bananas, but even not very ripe bananas will do, you just may need to add more sweetener (more dates or maple syrup).
- Vanilla extract – this is optional. You can also add vanilla bean paste. It makes the smoothie taste even better.
How to make it:
- Measure out all the ingredients.
- Add all the ingredients into the blender container.
- Mix thoroughly (I like to mix it for a good 2-3 minutes) until smooth and creamy (make sure to read my notes about the dates, that are written above).
- Enjoy!
Adjust the consistency to your liking: just add more or less milk. This smoothie is not very thick, it’s easily pourable so you can easily drink it through a straw.
If you would like to make this smoothie thicker and colder – use frozen bananas. I don’t recommend adding ice as it will dilute the amazing flavor of this smoothie too much.
This smoothie tastes also amazing the next day. Store it in the fridge, shake with the container or stir it thoroughly with a fork before drinking it.
